![]() Yes I could update this Mac to Leopard and run Leopard Webkit, but would rather stay on Tiger because it runs decently, looks nice, and also fits better with the older software installed (as well as being able to run the newer PowerPC software such as iWork '09 and Adobe CS4). Privacy Policy macOS Any Mac running OS X Tiger can run TenFourFox 38. ![]() Still though, TenFourFox (and Firefox in general) is slow on low-end hardware, and I wonder if there are any modern or still supported alternatives to TenFourFox on Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11). TenFourFox is a web browser for Power Macintosh computers, based on Mozilla s Gecko layout engine. The maximum OS levels are: iMac PowerPC G3 233-350mHz: OS 10.3.9 iMac PowerPC G3. Of course I don't expect this to perform like a brand new Intel Mac. ![]() My second choice is TenFourFox, a PowerPC optimized port of Firefox, which occasionally exhibits a font glitch on some websites, as in the example below. My favorite is Camino, currently at version 2.1, which is a port of Firefox 3.6 (the last PowerPC version of Firefox) optimized for Macs. Internet Explorer Pros: Tight integration with Windows. There are a lot of good browsers for OS X 10.4. Cons: Not a full port of Firefox 4, support and future builds are hanging by a thread as Mozilla moves further and further away from PowerPC and older versions of OS X. TenFourFox is a fast, efficient Web browser always based on the current version of Firefox, but unlike the main distribution TenFourFox is compatible with OS X 10.4 and 10.5 running on PowerPC processors. One of those projects was TenFourFox, a fork of the Firefox browser for G3, G4, and G5-based PowerPC Macs running Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5. This is on a Power Mac G4 Cube upgraded to 1.8 GHz using one of the rare upgrade cards (Sonnet Encore ST G4). TenFourFox Pros: Custom fork of Firefox 4 for PowerPC, optimized versions for G3, G4, or G5 Macs. With Chrome and Firefox due to drop OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 support, perhaps it’s time for a similar project TenSixFox. TenFourFox is a great piece of software, but I get annoyed when I see the CPU usage jump to 100% literally doing something as simple as moving the cursor over a webpage, and page loads are quite sluggish as well, again with 100% CPU usage. Those using G3, G4, or G5 Macs with OS X 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard are no doubt aware of TenFourFox, a port of the latest Extended Release version of Firefox to these old systems.
